Trampling foot dragon carpets the ground, Saint Michael raises his sword and prepares to carry the fatal blow. Represented following the traditional iconography, as a winged knight, the Archangel is of golden breastplate topped with a red coat. Behind the dragon is depicted a praying donor unidentified. The composition contains, with some variations, that of the "Saint Michel with the Lord of All", painted by Bartolomeo Bermejo (London, National Gallery). This is in fact a reconstruction drawing of patterns, particularly in the area of ​​Flemish painting: the dragon is taken from that of "St. George" Sforza Triptych Rogier van der Weyden (Brussels, Royal Museums Fine arts) and the donor is reminiscent of "the man in red turban", painted by Jan van Eyck (London, National Gallery) and other Flemish portraits.

Charles Vincent Ocampo bought this painting in the early twentieth century it was donated to the Museum of Fine Arts of the City of Paris, subject to usufruct in 1931. The usufruct was abandoned in 1942.
