More than any painter of his generation, Renoir is often criticized for his presentation of women as purely corporeal creatures devoid of psychological dimension. Here, the woman's ample body fills the canvas and seems to exist purely for the visual pleasure of the viewer. She is in perfect harmony with nature; note how her body rhymes with the curves of the mountains in the background.
