The provocative idea of a European woman held captive as a concubine in a Middle Eastern harem was a source of fascination to the Western imagination, and emblematic of Benjamin-Constant’s production.

The 19th century artpiece The Serbian Concubine (A Sending Serbia) was made by the artist Benjamin-Constant. The artpiece measures the size of 12 1/4 x 15 1/2 in (31,1 x 39,4 cm). Oil on canvas was applied by the painter as the medium of the masterpiece.
