Banckes the fut un des auteurs les plus dramatiques prolifiques de son temps, écrivant aussi bien pour le Théâtre-Français ( "Louis IX", 1819; "Elisabeth d'Angleterre", 1824; "Maria Padilla", 1838) that for les scenes secondaires (auxquelles the fournit plus d'une soixantaine of vaudeville, and Drames comédies). The way was to the Académie française in 1841, and devint directeur du Théâtre du Vaudeville in 1842.
