Granet conceived this subject during Napoleon's occupation of Rome, at which time the Capuchin order had been banished from its seventeenth-century church near piazza Barberini. Despite French policy, the painting was purchased by the Emperor's sister Caroline Murat, Queen of Naples, for their brother Louis Bonaparte. He had seen it in Granet’s studio, where it created a sensation at the end of 1814, prompting Pope Pius VII to grant the artist an audience. This is the first version of a composition that Granet painted, by his own count, at least fifteen times.

Available materials
We offer a range of various materials and sizes for every product. Choose among the following product options now to match your preferences in size and material:
- Acrylic glass print (with real glass coating): A glossy print on acrylic glass, which is sometimes described as a an art print on plexiglass, will transform your chosen original into great décor and offers a viable alternative to canvas and dibond fine art replicas. The work of art is printed with the help of state-of-the-art UV printing technology. It creates vivid and sharp color shades. The great upside of a plexiglass fine art copy is that contrasts as well as painting details will be recognizeable thanks to the granular gradation in the print.
- Canvas: A printed canvas mounted on a wooden frame. Canvas prints are relatively low in weight, which implies that it is easy to hang up your Canvas print without extra wall-mounts. Canvas prints are suited for all types of walls.
- Aluminium dibond print: This is a metal print made on aluminium dibond with an outstanding effect of depth. Its non-reflective surface structure creates a contemporary impression. Colors are luminous and vivid in the highest definition, details appear crisp and clear, and you can perceive the matte appearance of the fine art print.
- The poster print (canvas material): The Artprinta poster print is a UV printed sheet of canvas paper with a slightly roughened surface finish, which reminds the original masterpiece. Please keep in mind, that depending on the size of the canvas poster print we add a white margin of around 2-6cm round about the artwork, which facilitates the framing.
