In the center of the composition, St. Apollonia is kneeling, bound and hands crossed on his chest, wearing a white cloth. An executioner, shirtless, pulls her head back and her tears teeth using pliers. Near the martyrdom stands an old priest, one hand resting on a stick, the other showing the statue of Jupiter enthroned the globe in one hand, lightning in the other and an incense vase on a pedestal. Another man grimacing watches the scene. On the left, in the foreground, an officer mounted on a dappled horse carries an ample drapery which almost entirely covers. He is wearing a large turban adorned with a feather. Behind him is another rider. On the right, near a dog, an executioner kneeling stirs a fire. In heaven, angels are depicted eight of which carries a cross. More angel holding the palm of martyrdom.
This grisaille painting is most likely a modelletto grisaille for burning Marinus executed in 1629 after "The Saint Apollonia martyr". This table ordered for an altar of the Augustinian church in Antwerp it was installed in 1628, along with a painting by Rubens and Van Dyck another. The Augustinians of Antwerp showed a special devotion to St. Apollonia, whose relics were honored in their church and that was invoked against the toothache. The modello differs from the finished work, particularly a distribution of the different light, more suitable for printing.

Your artwork is made with modern UV direct print machines. Our real glass coating protects your custom art print against sunlight and external influences for many years.

The advantage of canvas prints is that they are relatively low in weight, meaning that it is easy to hang the Canvas print without any wall-mounts. Hence, a canvas print is suitable for all types of walls.
- Poster print on canvas material: The Artprinta poster print is a UV printed flat canvas paper with a granular surface finish.
