This painting depicts the Spanish painter Ignacio Zuloaga y Zabaleta (1870-1945) Length, his palette and brushes in hand, painting a large canvas placed on the floor, in a landscape. He has a flat rim hat and a cloak thrown over his left shoulder. Several elements in this table refer to the Spanish painters of the seventeenth century which Zuloaga continues the tradition: the painter's posture reminiscent of Velasquez painting "Las Meninas"; stormy landscape background reminiscent of those of El Greco.
A letter from J. E. White, inventoried as No. PP-LDUT01176 (3) refers to this painting.
