English: Axel Lindman went to France to study landscape painting. On the outskirts of Paris in the 1870s, he discovered the new plein air painting that was developing near Barbizon. However, although Lindman was influenced by the Barbizon school, he nevertheless created his own imagery. Critics at the time praised his pale colours – even if his motifs were French, the paintings were considered to have a distinct Nordic character.
