Fragment of an allegory on the tyranny of the Duke of Alva in the Netherlands. The part of the show far left with the Duke of Alva sitting on his throne lacking. In the middle kneeling seventeen Dutch provinces county arms and shackled in captivity. Left members of Alva's Blood Council, the right members beaten dumb of the States General. Right in the foreground a group of spectators. In the background left the beheading of the Counts of Egmont and Hornes, Brussels, May 1568, and the Duchess of Parma fishing in a pond. Right background torture, burnings and seem to gallows. Based on a print by Willem Delff in 1622.
