Trevisani, of Venetian origins, spent most of his life in Rome, working for the papal court. He depicted the subject of the body of Christ held by angels on several occasions, most importantly for Pope Clement XI, and for the Papal Nephew Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni. This canvas may be the one commissioned in 1707 by Giovanni Fonticelli, a friend of the artist.
