The "Cairo street" was, with the Eiffel Tower and the electricity palace, one of the major attractions of the universal exhibition of 1889. The architectural framework reconstituted an alley of the bazaar stalls and sheltering shop was hosted by extras - pedestrians, donkey drivers, merchants, etc. - wearing the costume of the Middle East.

In 1889 the artist C. Bussilliet made the artwork. The over 130 year old original version was painted with the size: Height: 42,6 cm, Width: 34,9 cm, Thickness: 2,5 cm. The original artwork's inscription is: Signing of the running - Signed lower right: "Bussilliet". It is included in the art collection of Musée Carnavalet Paris, which is a museum dedicated to the history of the city Paris.
