Original artwork description from Barnes Foundation (© Copyright - Barnes Foundation - Barnes Foundation)
Mussel-Fishers at Berneval was the last Renoir to enter Albert Barnes's collection. He bought the painting in 1942 after coveting it for decades: it had hung in the private collection of the famous impressionist dealer Paul Durand-Ruel, who was reluctant to part with it. Renoir painted this idyllic scene of a peasant family gathering mussels during an 1879 visit to the Normandy coast.
