Waldmüller, who held in his portraits, especially representatives of the Viennese bourgeoisie, the peasantry developed in his genre paintings as an excellent observer. In many paintings he described both parties (the Corpus Christi morning, Lower Austrian farmer wedding, the bride's farewell) and random events and the everyday - motifs that he found in the field of near Vienna nearby Vienna Woods or in the Salzkammergut. Content, he focused less on the hard agricultural work, but rather on the rural life in itself, old people, mothers and children in particular counted while his popular models; in the comparison of the generations it demonstrated the course of life. Waldmüller started relatively late to deal with the genre painting. In the early forties he found that may apply to him the form. Every now and then a certain tendency to "staging" and sometimes almost unnatural movements that likes used for their gain, contributing sometimes sharp contouring, flickering sunlight shows. From the mid-fifties, the artist began to give people more in its large-scale landscape paintings incorporate. With the group of brushwood collectors who have settled in the clearing on the hill laced their bundles, the painter held an everyday image of rural life area. The radiant in the foreground summer sun sets contrasts with the dark shadow areas, resulting in an increase in the plasticity and to an increased emphasis on reds, blues and whites of garments. The luminosity of the sun loses in the gently running back Bergland but increasing intensity of which is in the valley castle fall only a few rays. From the clearing of the views to extend high above the peaks to infinity, the mountain ranges lose with the removal of its tangible color. The haze on the horizon makes the green of the wooded slopes increasingly assume the color of the sky. The so popular in other Waldmüller summer blue sky is covered with clouds here - illuminated by the evening sun give the clouds, the field a warming, uniform tint. The view of the Alpine foothills with which finally uplifting Schneeberg is one of the last, and also the most beautiful "landscapes" Forest miller. Broad, she exudes an almost solemn rest, are in man and nature to unity.
