Antoine-Louis Chaumont in Millière (1746-1803) directed the Ecole des Ponts et Chaussées from 1781 to 1792. Louis XVI would have said that he was "the most honest man in the kingdom" and offered him twice in 1787 and in 1790, the Comptroller General of Finance, but failed to make him accept.
