Hans Baldung Grien was a German painter and printmaker who studied under Albrecht Dürer. Baldung distinguished himself as one of the great artists of the Northern Renaissance, producing important altarpieces, portraits, and otherworldly depictions of the Virgin and Child. Notice the delicately painted veil around the Madonna's head; minimal touches of white at the edges render the fabric present yet totally transparent
