Henry Philip Hope (1774-1839), heir to a major Anglo-Dutch bank and former owner of the Hope Diamond, is portrayed on foot and in a suit archaic early seventeenth century: a black coat and pink slashed down collar in lace ; a pink cape wrapped around his left arm as he holds a plumed hat in his right hand.
