Fourteen tapestries devoted to the "Life of the Virgin" once adorned the chancel of Notre Dame. Commissioned by Canon Michel Lefort and the woven between 1638 and 1657, the tapestries were executed after cartoons of Philippe de Champaigne (the first two), Jacques Stella (third) and Poerson (the last one). The hanging was sold to the Strasbourg Cathedral in 1739. The Carnavalet museum has three other sketches and drawings Poerson for this hanging: the "Annunciation (P2321), the" Nativity "(P2476), the" Rest on the Flight Egypt "(P2816) and" Visitation "(D14923).
