The alignment is in landscape format with a ratio of 4 : 3, which implies that the length is 33% longer than the width. Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller was a painter, whose style was mainly Realism. The Realist artist lived for a total of 72 years - born in the year 1793 in Vienna and died in 1865 in Hinterbrühl bei Wien.

Earlier falsely called "Motta di Taormina". In the 1840s Waldmüller began to study nature in the sunlight. This was an opportunity to travel in the summer of 1844 to Sicily. During a several-week stay in the eastern part of the island, he painted the mountain town of Mola, also called Castelmola which is located on a rocky cliff in 550 meters above sea level above Taormina. The small picture is unfinished and can only begin suspecting the summery blue of the southern sky. but the area is breathing heavily under the scorching heat. The pulsating flicker of the tract of land, the pale colors, the silhouette of the hill town, dominated by the ruins of the Norman castle and be perceived as through a haze - but especially the small size indicate that the view locally painted outdoors was , [Sabine Grabner 8/2009]
