Original artwork description by the museum's website (© Copyright - Belvedere - Belvedere)
The reason for this view is unknown. Neither one knows at what Baron Pfuel is here, for guided von Amerling List recorded for the year 1837 (!), Only the title "Flame Santander Mayor and Portrait of Baron Pfull purchased from Arthaber 60 Duc." Against the assumption it could be meant two paintings, says the amount of the price because Amerling asked for a portrait in the degree of its consistently around 100 ducats. But surprising is that the image in the sequence only under the title "Flemings mayor" is performed (as in 1838 in the catalog of Academy exhibition, as well in the auction catalog of Arthaber collection of the year 1868). It is very likely that there is a role Portrait of Baron Pfuel here, so the depiction of himself as a different person. For this, on the one hand, the panel says after the Flemish fashion of the 17th century, on the other hand - and this is in the foreground - the habit of the man, because he is trying with all its descriptive power the viewer to convince them that it is really him superscript a These public figure from the past; Moreover, the credibility is reinforced by the technique, which corresponds to the type of Anthony van Dyck.
