Claude Monet and his family lived at Argenteuil, outside Paris, from 1871 to 1878. Here he depicted his five- or six-year-old son, Jean, playing with a hoop and his wife, Camille, standing in the doorway of their vine-covered house. The pleasant weather and neatly kept garden, a forerunner of the artist’s celebrated garden at Giverny, give a sense of tranquility and well-being to this painting. This was a period of financial security for Monet thanks to recent sales of his work to the Paris art dealer Paul Durand-Ruel.

In 1873 Claude Monet made the piece of art. The original version measures the exact dimensions: 60,2 × 73,3 cm (23 11/16 × 28 7/8 in) and was painted on the medium oil on canvas. The masterpiece has the following inscription: inscribed, lower right: Claude Monet. This piece of art belongs to the Art Institute Chicago's art collection. Besides, the alignment of the digital reproduction is landscape and has a side ratio of 1.2 : 1, meaning that the length is 20% longer than the width. The painter Claude Monet was an artist from France, whose style was primarily Impressionism. The French artist lived for a total of 86 years - born in the year 1840 in Paris, Ile-de-France, France and passed away in 1926 in Giverny, Normandie, France.
